Oh ya free guest passes from Dave Patten to sit and park in the infield at
NHIS just taking in the fun. What a day it was, smells, sounds and sites.
Chris of Maine and his wife Yolana and my son Jordan and I met up and
caravaned to NHIS. A reminder of caravaning to Summit Point but a heck of a
lot closer. Arrived registered got the wrist band and we were in. Going
through the tunnel onto the infield first thing I see is Tood,,,I mean Todd
Walrich's 510 and rig nice!!! then we see Dave's truck and trailer. Take a
parking spot in front of him and where's every body? No, Dave hmm! so we
scurry over to Todd's and "Where's Tood? I yelled making fun because he
misspelt his own name from an email he sent us. Todd comes out and it's like
we've know each other for years. I guess that's what the Bluebirds list has
done for us, brought us together in words then eventually in person
excellent.
Of course I'm checking out all the cool mods Todd has on his 510 oh boy!!!
it's like a piece of fresh chocolate cake your Mom just made for your
brothers B-day. You want to just jump in but can't it isn't appropriate. Ya
that's how I felt, man I just wanted to get under on top and inside of Todd's
and Dave's 510's they are SWEET!!!! Watching Todd and Tyler in his nice all
steel body white 510 battling with Todd was great. Dave's 510? Oh man!! That
thing I swear runs like it's on rails, and that wining from those straight
cut gears in his trans sounds like an F18 coming in for a landing and his
shifting with no pausing for clutch was just incredible and kept him up in
the powerband walking the field. The day did bring some rain for the
afternoon sessions but it didn't stop Dave no. Chris and I quickly helped r &
r slicks for racing rain tires, Chris picks up a wheel and rim and says "Lou
here pick this up, oh man!!! weighed nothing, I mean it was lighter than my
boots now wonder Dave runs on rails geeeez! Dave was off and eating up the
track still riding on rails man was that sweet in the rain even. But it was
even more fun watching those Racing on slicks in the rain slipping and a
sliding in turn 3. That Porch' Boxer never could make that turn without
sliding out then finally on his 4th attempt he went into the tire barrier
snap oops! what was that? can you say front-end glass parts? but he was back
out crazy. After all was said and done we all headed to the garage area for
Chili, beers and soft drinks. Good thing these guys didn't have chili earlier
can you imaging? and in hot Nomex suits Oie!!
Here's Sundays results from Dave Patten:
I'm glad everyone had a good time. I started outside pole thanks to the 2nd
in Saturday's rain race. Ended up about 7th or 8th by the exit of turn 2 on
the first green flag lap. Fred Bross in the 710 broke the center out of the
right front wheel in turn 1, hit the wall real hard. Fred's OK, the car will
need major work if it can be salvaged. The Porch was running back in the pack
and never challenged me. I got passed latter in the race on the front
straight by a T1 Late model Corvette, I ran him down and eventually passed
him befrore the race ended. I finished 1st in class, 6th overall on the lead
lap. It was another great day for the 510.
From Chris of Maine
In group 4, Tyler finished 7th overall, first in class (1:19:9), Todd
finished 8th overall, second in class (1:20:9).
The blue Mini finished second overall first in class (1:16:9) FAST little
car!!!! Congrats to Tyler for bringing that pristine 510 through the field to
the win and congrats to "He who must race" for finishing lap(s) and the good
finish... now you can ask for more Suzie...
In group 8 Dave finished 6th overall, (ahead of all but one of those
Mustangs) FIRST in class (1:14:1)!!! YAHHHH! The Sunbeam won overall with a
(1:11:17), the Olds Aurora that Dave out qualified finished second overall
(1:10:8), and that fast Mustang forth overall with a (1:13:3). Congrats Dave
on the breakthrough year... Fred, you need to pull that FIA motor and put it
in a 510....
