Bigger Brakes, Wider Track - The 280ZX front brake upgrade is a great way to improve your 510’s stopping. A drawback is the loss of front track width, which can cause wheel to strut tube interference and necessitate the use of spacers and longer studs. We’ll show you how to improve on this set-up further and restore the front track width to almost stock.

Tech How-To: Troubleshooting Electrical Systems: Part One - Automotive electrical system fault diagnosis may be the most feared work for the backyard mechanic. Many people view electrical systems as a sort of black magic, best left to professional shops. This may hold true for newer computer controlled vehicles that rely on special diagnostic tools. This is definitely not true for older cars like our 510s that don’t utilize computers.

Tech / Safety: Rust! Our dimes worst enemy - Like many Japanese cars of the late sixties, Datsun cars and trucks offered little in the way of any sort of rust protection and most have suffered the untimely fate of the tin worm.

EFI In-tank Fuel Pump Installation: -- EFI engines need high-pressure fuel delivered to them. With EFI engine swaps becoming more common amongst Dimers, supplying adequate fuel becomes another issue on the To Do list. This article will detail the installation of an in-tank EFI fuel pump into a Datsun fuel tank.

Unleaded Filler Neck Swap -- The PL510 was produced before the removal of leaded fuel from the US marketplace. Unleaded-specific cars were equipped with reduced-diameter fuel filler necks. This prevented fueling confusion, as the larger-diameter leaded fuel pumps would not fit into unleaded-specific fuel necks. This makes fueling your 510 a hassle as you’re forced to hold the fuel dispensor in the filler neck. The solution is to upgrade your 510's fuel filler neck to the smaller-diameter, unleaded-specific neck.

Individual Throttle Body Conversion: A Dimer's world is not the path of "factory stock." There's always something better out there and good enough usually isn't. Even modern engine swaps are not immune to our need to improve beyond stock. We’ll show you how to keep your EFI yet reduce weight, improve access, and more importantly, increase airflow by bolting on individual throttle bodies.

Strut Shortening and Economical Ride Height Adjustment: Suspension travel is always at a premium on a lowered 510. You want to get the center of gravity as low as possible for better handling and that cool racer look. Suspension travel is essential to good handling and grip. Shortening the strut helps restore some of the lost travel on a lowered 510. More available travel = more available grip = better handling. With this modification to your stock struts (or any strut housing longer than 280ZX) you will get up to 1-3/4" of extra suspension travel and as a side benefit end up with adjustable front ride height.
